O.H. Ingram River Aged Rye Review [2021]

O.H. Ingram River Aged Rye Whiskey is aged three years on a barge rickhouse (patent pending) on the Mississippi River in Ballard County, KY. The constant ebb and flow of the river and exposure to the climate means this rye whiskey is mature beyond its years. But is it worth $80? We’ll get to that.

Brown Water Spirits was founded in 2015 after Hank Ingram won a business pitch competition. Brown Water (also known as O.H. Ingram Distilling Company) went on to receive the only DSP for a floating rickhouse and named its flagship brand after Hank’s great-great-great-grandfather Orrin Henry “O.H.” Ingram.

O.H. Ingram River Aged Rye Review

Nose – 91 out of 100 Points

Buttered cornbread, subtle brown sugar, caramel glazed bananas, toasted grains, and floral honey with just hints of rye spice.

Taste – 89 out of 100 Points

The mouthfeel is creamy. I get vanilla pudding with rolling baking spice on the side palate and charred cinnamon that billows forward. The flavors round out with subtle, sugary charred oak and maple syrup and toasted oatmeal back of the palate.

Finish – 88 out of 100 Points

The finish is medium. It offers delicious notes of maple syrup, sweet oak, rye, floral honey, and baking spice.

Complexity – 89 out of 100 Points

This rye whiskey offers solid complexity. There are layers of flavors that are composed from nose to finish.

Value – 86 out of 100 Points

O.H. Ingram Rye Whiskey is three years aged minimum, sourced from a distillery in Indiana, and finished on a floating barge rickhouse. The suggested retail is $80. The price is on the high end of a sourced whiskey of its age. Your mileage may vary based on how you value its unique aging. Saying all that, it is a thick, oily rye whiskey with great legs and is delicious. And at the end of the day, that’s what matters most. In the words of Morty, “You son of a bitch, I’m in.”

Verdict – Silver 88.6 out of 100 Points
